Then, some of the Syrian king’s advisers gave the king what they thought was the reason for their defeat. They said that they had fought on the hills and lost because Israel’s God is the God of the hills. So if they were to fight the Israelites on the plains or in the valleys, they would win. What stupid advice! They thought that the God of Israel only helped His people up in the hills and mountains, and not down in the valleys. Now, mountains refer to our good times, and valleys, our bad times. Some people have this idea that God is the God of our good times, but He is not there when we are going through bad times. We must stay focused on the answer and not the problem. Focusing on the problem causes us to develop in fear instead of faith (Philippians 4:6-8).

Ever since Satan rose up wanting the honors of God (Isaiah 14:12-15), his aim has been domination. Humans must have seemed an easy target to him, but in God’s eternal plan, “God has chosen the weak things to bring to nothing the things that are mighty” (1 Corinthians 1:27). Satan continues with his aims to this day. Among his strategies is the occult with all its manifestations. Against these dangers, the Christian carries the bullet-proof shield of faith. We overcome the devil by guarding ourselves with the shield of faith, throwing our trust upon God, giving the devil no place in our lives. “This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). Faith causes us to step out and say or do what God places in our hearts, but fear causes us to timidly stay under control and domination.

Greetings Friend, “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). This is the whole panorama of life—God lets us in on the whole ball game. The good, the bad and the ugly—we get to experience it through the different seasons in our lives. When you experience these seasons, don’t think you’re abnormal. God inspired Solomon to write this down so you wouldn’t feel strange when you find yourself going through these varied times in life. God wants you to experience what He will do for you when you choose to live life under the Son, bringing Jesus into every season. God wants to help by transforming your attitudes and turning around your negative circumstances. “ Hour by hour I place my days in your hand, safe from the hands out to get me ” (Psalms 31:15).
